A common feature of motocross gear sets, boots and gloves are that they are not waterproof! Also, do they really keep you warm when the sun goes in? What happens when you hit a sudden downpour, or the weather turns cold? Proper dirt bike jacket will help you out!

Comfort and concentration go hand in hand. You must have your mind entirely on the job at hand, and cold extremities will prevent that. With this in mind, here is our guide to a wide range of the best Enduro jackets and Enduro vests that are available to today’s riders.

In competitive motocross, you might only be looking at riding in 30-minute sessions, but for enduro or trail riding you could be in the saddle for many hours at a time. Warmth, dryness and all-round comfort take on a whole new level of importance.

We want to have fun on the trail, and so we need to keep warm, dry, comfortable and have as little restriction to movement as possible.

What is waterproof, and what is showerproof dirt bike jacket? 

A quick note before we start – what do waterproof ratings really mean?

Clothing with a minimum rating of 5,000mm is required for a garment to be called waterproof. In practice, this might not stand up to much more than a light rain shower. Ratings of 10,000mm and over signify a much more substantial water resistance and should survive most downpours, but even these will soak through over time.

What does “Water Resistant” mean? Manufacturers’ refer to water resistant as being protection from light showers only, so if you get caught out in a downpour, don’t expect them to last very long. This might be perfect for summer months as they will also generally be lighter and cooler whilst also being far cheaper than the fully waterproof alternatives.

Be mindful of technical fabrics and always check and follow manufacturer’s recommendations on fabric care. Don’t wash out the waterproof functionality. In most cases, you should be able to add waterproof liquids to a wash to retain or even enhance the proofing.

HWK is a relatively new entry to the motorcycle apparel sector being founded in 2016 with its headquarters in Austin Texas. They focus on making apparel more affordable while not compromising on quality.  

The HWK Scorpion Textile Jacket is the cheapest on this list at approximately only $60, but still boasts impressive features. 600D Cordura shell with removable thermal inner liner, CE armor and 5 ventilated air zips.

Overall impression is that this jacket feels much more expensive than the price would indicate, whilst the armor is not rated, anything is better than nothing in case of a tumble. Users also reported that the velcro closures can fail after time, but overall, riders were impressed with this jacket.

We would recommend this jacket for the price conscious buyer and maybe not for the really rainy days, but at that price, it can quickly become a favorite.

Following on from the HWK Scorpion, the HWK Adventure Touring Jacket is another very impressive jacket for the price. The main differences are the longer cut for extra warmth and weather protection, more pockets and a neoprene-lined collar. Some people have reported that the collar padding can be annoying after time, whilst others love the comfort.

Overall an excellent progression from the base Scorpion model for those in a colder climate or winter riding. Users were impressed by the quality considering the price.

To choose the right product, you need to balance the needs and preferences of your riding style. If you simply want an extra layer of warmth and comfort for those early morning starts or to fend off the odd, unexpected rain shower then look at lightweight and practical storage options.
